The view from the back garden – 1 minute apart, the settings have been messed with methinks

A Challenge For Me A Challenge For My Coracle

It’s that time of year again, the 3 Village Challenge, this year it descended into yet more chaos & farce as the mighty Llanishen team was down to bare bones due to a cricket match being arranged in Chepstow on the same day thus depriving the perennial underachievers of most of last years team as well as a bout of sniffles amongst the oranjball’s however, we still won the cricket & touch rugby and even managed a draw in the tug of war (which we would have won if we hadn’t had to compete in 4 consecutive pulls) with me at anchor, a social worker, lay preacher/prospective MP, some kids, & D against the horny-handed sons of the soil from Llanfihangel and Trellech Grange, The official photographer spent much of his time on the whisky stall (one for you, one for me) so Mrs OB took over for a while, the boys got to catch eggs (surprisingly well considering they were the youngest) Mr Gibbs spent most of the time either asleep or scrounging… oh and our replacements in the 3 legged race who had been practicing (apparently), practicing what, coming last?, going very slowly? pah!

  • The kids sack race
  • The falling over challenge
  • Mrs “Ive got control of Roy’s camera” Oranjball
  • Egg-catching (shame I didn’t take it a split second later…..splat)
  • Child Two doing the egg thing
  • I feel a right pillock
  • Tell you what, we’ll confuse them by pushing
  • Look at that athleticism
  • You will give me some
  • YOU WILL GIVE ME SOME – and I did
  • For the record I got 1 right on the whisky challenge which wasn’t bad considering I hadn’t stopped sneezing for 2 days and couldn’t smell or taste, bit embarassing not being able to tell that “Brand X” was actually Brand(y) then again no-one else did either & only one person got 2 right whilst many got none right but still enjoyed themselves

Oh I nearly forgot we WON for the first time ever Llanishen won the 3 village challenge the only question is did we win because half the team were elsewhere or despite half the team being elsewhere

    We WON We WON Huzzah

    Puzzle?? Wood

Here we are then, another 15 mins from Schloss Oranjball we have Puzzlewood which has been used in Dr Who (Flesh & Stone) and Merlin (haven’t got a clue as I don’t watch that one), cue foghorns racing around with sonic screwdrivers, most of the pics taken by Wifey are blurred and a sustantial amount of the others are too dark because we’re in a bloody wood ‘duh. In the true tradition of boosting your profile – apparently Tolkien used to visit the Forest of Dean, therefore he must have visited Puzzlewood which gave him the idea of Fangorn Forest…. tenuous at best – but still a great place to go (especially if you’ve got kids)

  • Dr Who’s
  • Puzzlewood
  • Oranjball & Wifey
  • Action shot
  • Foghorns
  • Arty spiders web
  • Puzzlewood
  • Cat in a Manger… aawwwwhhh
  • Devil goat
  • Puzzlewood
  • No you can’t come out
  • Puzzlewood
  • Child two’s knees
  • Puzzlewood
  • Viewpoint
  • At some point we’ll be of to Clearwell Caves which is probably 14 mins and 30 seconds away as used in more Dr Who episodes (Christmas Invasion, Satan Pit, Fire of Pompeii, Time of Angels, Flesh and Stone)

    Sugerloaf Mountain

I know what you’re thinking…. you’re jealous aren’t you…. Sugarloaf Mountain, Rio, Copacabana, beach volleyball etc. So here you go Sugarloaf Mountain x 2. The only problem is… I’m talking about the second picture which is still Sugarloaf Mountain, it’s just that it’s not in Brazil, it’s by Abergavenny

Still looks nice though doesn’t it, can you spot the difference though… go on, you know, the difference between Brazil & Wales… well one of the differences but quite a big one… the bikinis rain, Wales has more than it’s fair share. Brazil also has more plastic surgeons though I think there’s more need for them in Newport/Swansea/Cardiff/Wrexham/Caernarfon (delete as applicable)

    • Sugarloaf – Brazil
    • Sugarloaf – Abergavenny
    • Wifey, Foghorns  & unimpressed Mr Gibbs
    • Wet Mr Gibbs
    • Child Two, Mr Gibbs, Me – Wet and about to go back to car
    • Child One and an apple
    • Child Two and a different apple (honest)
    • The Sun? might not be raining over there
    • Obligatory arty fern photo
    • Picnic in car – Gibbs likes these

    Where’s Hannah Gorden?

What more can you ask for on a Sunday afternoon, Child One at a friends for a sleepover, Child Two on the playstation, Wifey doing the Midsomer Murders bit, which leaves the TV free for me to continue the summer of sport – Charity Shield, a sound thrashing for the blue scum… Huzzzah and jolly old Pakistan taking the test match into day 4 with a lead (something that wasn’t expected at lunch)
